The Homemaker's Sketchbook

From surviving motherhood by default to thriving in motherhood by design.

Motherhood Survival Guide

About Me

Hi! I’m Amber, wife of Randy, mother of 6 children, and the designer of my home.

Over the years, I’ve gone on a transformational journey from Surviving Motherhood by Default to Thriving in Motherhood by Design.

Most of us start our journey as homemakers trying to fit our lives into a mold that wasn’t built for us. We find ourselves tripping over toys in the kitchen, losing the battle against the ‘Messy Middle,’ and feeling like guests in our own chaos.

As a mother of many, I realized that I couldn’t afford to live by default. I needed a home that worked as hard as I did. I stopped looking at my house as a set of chores to be finished and started looking at it as a Sketchbook—a canvas that I have the power to redesign for the sake of my family’s connection.

My Motherhood Philosophy: The Artist’s Pencil

In this space, we use the Artist’s Pencil philosophy. Just as an artist chooses one tool that can create a myriad of textures and lines, we choose ‘Worker’ pieces for our homes:

  • Multi-Functional Infrastructure: Furniture that plays, stores, and serves.
  • Open-Ended Tools: Toys that invite imagination rather than clutter.
  • The Proximity Rule: Mapping our floor plans around the ‘Hearth’—wherever the mother is.

What You’ll Find Here

The Homemaker’s Sketchbook is a resource for the woman who wants to be the Architect of her Home. Whether we are repurposing a formal dining room into a centralized playroom or mastering the 5-Minute Reset, every system shared here is battle-tested by a ‘Mom of Many.’

I’m not here to give you a Pinterest-perfect museum. I’m here to give you a high-performing engine for a joyful, intentional life.”

Ready to stop reacting and start designing? Grab your pencil. Let’s start sketching a home where you don’t just survive—you thrive.
